Welcome to the seven eight drum beats drum lesson. Here we will learn how to play drum beats in the seven eight time signature. These can seem scary at first but let’s relate them to our comfortable four four time signature. In four four we have four quarter notes. If we split those in half we have eight eighth notes.
We count them as: 1&2&3&4&.
When we look at seven eight we have seven eighth notes in a bar. That’s almost the same as four four; it just has one less eighth note. So that’s not really that scary is it?
But the real challenge is playing them without reverting to the comfort of four four. So in this lesson we start slowly and break it down so that you can play along even if you’re totally new to seven eight. We then build the complexity so that you have a range of seven eight drum beats.
