Welcome to the Samba rock drum lesson. Here we will learn how to play some really fun samba rock grooves.
As you may know, samba is a style of music that comes from Brazil. It is very energetic and exciting which is why it’s so much fun to play on the drums.
Traditionally it is played by lots of different percussionists using various percussion instruments. It’s fun to learn the different samba parts and try to play them on a drum kit because it relies on the drummer having excellent independence between their limbs.
But we don’t always have to stick to the traditional samba sounds. In this drum lesson we take the foundations of the samba drum rhythms and create an exciting samba rock drum beat. This creates grooves that can be used in most styles of music. It can really enhance a song to bring a flavour of latin whilst still maintaining a strong backbeat that is required in rock, pop and funk.
