Samba Independence Exercise For Drums

Samba Independence Drum Exercise

Learn a fun Samba independence exercise

This Is The Samba Independence Exercise for Drums

This samba independence exercise is a really fun way to test your four limb independence whilst also improving your samba grooves.

Now I should tell you straight off that this isn’t the place to start for total beginners of Samba. This lesson assumes that you already have a basic grasp of a jazz samba beat. But if you don’t have that then don’t worry…..you’re not excluded. You can jump across and take that lesson first. Click here to learn the basic jazz samba and then come back to this lesson when you’re ready for it.

But assuming you’re ready to go, let’s jump in.

The samba is a four limb independence exercise anyway so if you have the basic groove down then you’ve already been working out those brain cells and probably getting yourself in a mess. Now you’ve done that you’ve actually done most of the work already.

The aspect that we’re focusing on right here is the ride cymbal. There are two common ride cymbal patterns that are often played and these are both covered in the basic jazz samba lesson. All we’re doing here is taking that to the next level by alternating between the two ride patterns. That’s what makes this such a challenging samba independence exercise because we’re developing the freedom to switch things up whilst maintaining that infectious groove.

Everything else stays the same so your bass, hi-hat foot pedal and snare don’t change. Start this super slow and gradually build up speed once you’re ready. This exercise will give you the freedom to switch between these two patterns, but also move into fills and other beat variations whilst having the ability to jump back into these core patterns.

There are other samba lessons available on the Total Drummer website such as the jazz samba drum beat, the basic street samba beat and the advanced street samba drum beat so there’s plenty of Brazilian fun to get stuck into.

But for now scroll down to instantly access the lesson for free and prepare to pull your hair out if you’re brave enough to take on the challenge! Enjoy…….
