Learn how to apply rudiments for drum kit

Rudiments for Drum Kit, drum rudiments, rudiment grooveIn this drum lesson we will learn how to apply rudiments for drum kit to create exciting drum beats and fills. For many drummers we learn the rudiments in our younger years and they seem very dull. I remember being told to practice them as a kid without anyone telling me why I should practice them or how they can be used. Needless to say I was totally unmotivated and didn’t practice them.

The result was that a little later on my drumming journey I realised how the crucial the rudiments were to building my technique and sticking patterns for playing everything I wanted to play well on the drums. At that point I had a  lot of hard work to do to catch up with where I needed to be at that stage of my development.

If you already realise how important they are then you might want to make sure you know how to play all of the core rudiments. If you’re not yet convinced then you might want to read this to understand why.

But providing you already know how to play the basic rudiments then let’s check out how to apply rudiments for drum kit.

The rudiments for drum kit course below takes some of the most common rudiments such as paradiddles and double paradiddles and brings them to life as rhythms. The course provides full sheet music as well as video instruction on how to play each example. At the end we discuss how you can go beyond the examples in the course and create unlimited numbers of drum grooves and fills using different rudiments.

But for now watch the video below to hear it and then scroll down to access the full lesson.
