Roland TD17 Electronic Drums

The Roland TD17 has arrived!

Let’s see what the Roland TD17drum is all about

 What is the Roland TD17?

Roland TD17, vdrums, electronic drumsThe new Roland TD17 line is designed to replace the TD11 range which was launched in 2012 and has now stopped being produced. They are still a great choice for drummers and you can find very good second hand examples to get you into the Roland electronic drum products at a cheaper price.

But the Roland TD17 line has some awesome new features to take things to the next level, both in the hardware and software departments.

“That’s why we’re calling the TD-17 the electronic drums to help you become a better drummer faster,” said emcee Jules Tabberer-Stewart, Roland’s global product drum marketing strategy manager.

Roland TD17 features

The Roland TD17 uses Prismatic Sound Modelling technology and the sound library from the flagship TD50 range as well as new hardware and bluetooth connectivity to connect with your devices.

The upgraded hardware includes a larger 12″ mesh dual snare pad (pdx-12) which has a raised rubber rim to get closer to that of an acoustic snare

There’s also a hi-hat cymbal with bottom sensor (VH-10) so you can mount it on a hi-hat stand. The hi-hat is lighter and responds more like a real hi-hat cymbal.

And for the low end there is a larger bass drum pad (KD-10) which is more expressive. The design causes less external noise so you don’t annoy cohabitants or neighbors but still allows great playability close to an acoustic bass drum.

Software

The Roland TD17 also connects via USB to your device which allows you to use the Melodics software. This includes lessons and playalong track libraries. When connected the software can track your playing and score you.

Roland TD17 formats

There are three configurations of the Roland TD17 currently and these are:

  • The TD-17KL includes an 8” PDX-8 mesh snare pad, three 8” rubber tom pads, the new TD-10 kick pedal pad, two 8” cymbal pads, and a hi-hat pad with remote foot pedal. It is the only model in the series that does not include Bluetooth connectivity.
  • The TD-17KV comes with the new PDX-12 snare pad, KD-10 kick drum pad, three 8” mesh tom pads, two cymbal pads, and a hi-hat pad with remote foot pedal.
  • The TD-17KVX includes the PDX-12, KD-10, and the new VH-10 hi-hat pad and bottom, as well as three 8” mesh tom heads, two 12” crash cymbal pads, and a 13” ride cymbal pad.
