Welcome to the paradiddle drum beat with a twist drum challenge. This drum lesson will mess your head up and hopefully inspire you simultaneously. If it does one of those then I’m happy.
We will take the humble standard paradiddle and turn it into a drum beat. This is pretty normal behaviour and creates a very useable, funky drum groove.
But then we are going to displace it to create something weird and wonderful. This is really hard to do but the drum lesson breaks it down so even beginner drummers can try it. This is for everyone.
But it will most likely make your head hurt so take that as a health warning.
As explained in the lesson, this is a fun challenge and for some of us that is enough, but on a practical level this type of work helps you to get deeper inside a rhythm and have creative freedom to displace it and create fresh patterns from any old and tired drum beat.
