Learn how to play drum beats in the nine eight time signature
This Is The Nine Eight Drum Beats Lesson
Welcome to the nine eight drum beats drum lesson. Here we breakdown the mysterious time signature that is nine eight. It’s actually not that mysterious at all.
In previous lessons we looked at seven eight and spoke about it’s relationship with four four. Four four has four quarter notes in a bar and, therefore, eight eighth notes. Seven eight has seven eighth notes which is just one less.
Well nine eight is just as close to four four. In nine eight there are nine eighth notes in the bar so it’s just one more than four four. This means that nine eight is just like playing a standard four four groove but you add one more eighth note to the end.
That isn’t so scary is it?
But it’s actually quite strange to play at first because it doesn’t feel natural. So in this nine eight drum lesson we break it down very slowly and start very simply. We then build it up to more difficult levels.
