Make The Hi-hat Sound Good

How To Make The Hi-Hat Sound Good

Learn how to get different tones from the hi-hat

This Is The Hi-hat Tones Lesson

We are exploring your hi-hat sound, and specifically how to make the hi-hat sound good.

The hi-hat is one of the most expressive parts of the drum kit and yet many drummers don’t use it to it’s full potential. They don’t understand how to make the hi-hat sound good and how to use the hi-hat for different effects.

We can lift a song and differentiate between sections just by changing the hi-hat sound, even if we don’t change anything else in the whole song.

But many drummers use the same part of their drum stick on the same part of the hi-hat and get used to the fact that the hi-hat doesn’t sound good, or can’t produce much variation.

But they are wrong!

In this lesson we will explore the different hi-hat sounds we can achieve using different parts of the drum stick. We will also explore the different sound effects that we can achieve when we hit different parts of the hi-hat.

By the end of this short lesson you will know how to make your hi-hat sound good, you will know how to be really expressive on the hi-hat and you will have the ability to be a much more musical drummer when using the hi-hat.

Watch the video below to learn all the different hi-hat sounds we can achieve.
