Welcome to the Linear odd note groupings drum lesson. Here we will learn how to play some interesting linear drum beats.
Linear drumming simply involves playing one sound at a time. We’ve been delving into linear quite a bit lately such as this linear drum lesson.
And in this lesson today we are going a step further and getting a little weird. We are working in four four time signature and using sixteenth notes; so it’s all very standard. But we are going to learn how to use strange phrasing within that standard framework. The result is some really interesting and unusual grooves that sound like they are in a strange time signature. But they are actually in four four!
It’s a lot of fun and is a concept you can use outside of linear drumming when you need to inspire interesting ideas.
