This Is The Jazz Basics With Snare Comping Drum Lesson

Welcome to this jazz basics with snare comping drum lesson. Here we will learn how to play jazz drums.

We will start with the absolute basics so that you understand the foundation rhythm needed for a majority of jazz music. We will then develop your left hand comping exercises to give you freedom to be expressive.

Jazz drumming requires a totally different approach to pop, rock and funk. For a start jazz is often swung which means it is based on a triplet subdivision. And beyond that the emphasis comes from your right hand on the ride and left foot on the hi-hat. This is the opposite to the likes of rock where your left hand on the snare and right foot on the bass create the emphasis.
