Improvised Melodic Drum Solo
A totally improvised drum solo just for fun!
This Is An Improvised Melodic Drum Solo
Welcome to an improvised drum solo that I thought I’d share. After a few days of learning songs for gigs and then the gigs themselves, I was done with all the regimented learning and playing.
I had just a few hours sleep but felt a real desire to get in the studio and just play drums without any rules or agenda.
I love having the freedom to see what comes out. So here it is warts and all.
It was based on an idea that came out immediately when I sat at the kit and appears at 3.41 here. I decided to then film the improvisation. I knew I wanted to get to that groove at some point but didn’t know what would come before or after it.
There’s something free and fun about having no rules and not being precious about the result. There are mistakes and imperfections but it is a unique performance created in that moment. That’s the type of performance that I love the most and is sometimes lost in some genres and modern music so I wanted to share this in an effort to keep it real!
I hope you enjoy it.
