I shot the sheriff – Drum Sheet Music

I Shot the Sheriff – Bob Marley Drum Sheet Music

Fully notated ‘I shot the sheriff’ by Bob Marley

Full drum notation of the Bob Marley classic – I shot the Sheriff

I shot the sheriff was released by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1973 on the ‘Burnin’ album. The lyrics are delivered as a narrator who explains that he did shoot a corrupt sheriff but he did not kill the deputy.

The Wailers were Bob’s band and the rhythm section consisted of brothers Carlton ‘Carly’ Barrett on drums and Aston ‘family man’ Barrett on bass. Together they defined the reggae sound and Carly was responsible for bringing the classic ‘one drop’ reggae beat to the masses. This is the rhythm type that drives Marley’s ‘I shot the sheriff’.

A year after it’s release Eric Clapton made a great cover which hit the Billboard number one spot in 1974 and later entered the Grammy Hall of Fame. Both versions are well worth getting to grips with but if you want the authentic reggae sound then stick to Bob Marley’s version.
