The answer is….A LOT!
When I’m recording a track my biggest choice is the snare drum.
That decision includes:
- Which snare drum to use
- Which heads to use
- How should it be tuned
- Should I use dampening such as moon gel, tape, etc?
So in this video I will use the same piece of music and the same groove but I will vary the snare drum. Each snare has a different depth, diameter, shell material, drum head, tuning tension. So it creates a large amount of variety.
The drums I chose to create some variety here are:
- Saluda wood snare 14×6.5inches
- Ludwig Supraphonic 1967 metal 14×5.5inches
- Premier piccolo wood 13×3.5inches
- Tama steel 10×5.5inches
