This Is The Flamiest Flam Accent Drum Fill
Welcome to the flamiest flam accent drum fill. Ok that’s not technically a thing….except it is now!
But this is definitely a really fun drum fill that makes good use of the flam accent.
The flam accent is a three note pattern involving a….yes you guessed it…….flam. That is then followed by two softer notes.
This rudiment naturally lends itself to triplet subdivisions but we are going to play it over 16th notes which creates a really interesting phrasing.
If we repeat the flam accent three times over 16th notes it lasts for three quarter notes. Because we’re playing in four four time signature, that leaves us with one spare beat at the end of the bar to improvise whatever we want.
In fact we can jump out of the flam accent pattern at any stage and improvise our own endings. It’s very fun, very creative and sounds really effective.
