This Is The Do They Know It's Christmas Drum Breakdown
Welcome to the Do They Know It’s Christmas drum breakdown. Here we will learn how to play the drum parts for this Christmas classic.
We’re all very familiar with the well played Christmas song ‘Do they know it’s Christmas’. Penned by Bob Geldof and recorded at Sarm West studios in London in 1984, it was a charity project to raise funds to tackle famine in Africa. It was recorded by a troop of the most popular musicians of the time and it featured Phil Collins on drums sporting one of his finest tank tops.
It might sound like a simple pop song with a casual listen but when you break the drum beat down and listen carefully there is quite a complex funky groove going on. There are also some trademark Phil Collins phrasing that goes across the barline.
So it’s a lot of fun to play and gives us more of a challenge than we might first think.
