Changing Hi-hats To Lift A Song

Changing Hi-hats To Lift A Song

Learn how to use the hi-hats to completely change the feel of a song

Let's explore the power of the hi-hat!

Welcome to this drum lesson where we will explore changing hi-hats to lift a song. The hi-hat is one the most expressive, yet overlooked, parts of the drum kit.

There is so much we can do with it but often drummers simply resort to what they learnt first…..hammering 8th notes throughout the song.

Sometimes that is exactly what the song needs and it works very effectively but on other occasions we can use the hi-hat in very powerful ways.

In fact we could play a whole song without changing anything but the hi-hat and still make different sections sound completely unique. And that’s exactly what we will do in this drum lesson.

We will break down the various options available to us and examine how they can affect the feel of the song. We will then play them along with a drumless track to hear what a difference it can make. You will also get access to the backing track so you can practice along at home.
