Welcome to the Ain’t Nobody drum beat lesson. Ain’t Nobody is a song recorded by Chaka Khan and the drummer was the great John J.R. Robinson.
John Robinson was a prolific studio drummer in the 1980s working with a huge array of great artists including Lionel Richie, Chaka Khan and Michael Jackson.
One of his most famous drum beats is that of Ain’t Nobody. Although this drum beat was not recorded in one part, instead it was layered with different parts of the kit recorded separately, it is a wonderful groove.
Here we will break down the verse groove and the chorus groove.
It is a funky 16 beat rhythm but there are some very challenging open hi-hat and bass drum coordination aspects to master.
