Teacher's Biography:

Welcome to my Preston drum lessons drum teacher profile.

My name is Matt and I am a professional drum-teacher in Melbourne with over 10 years drumming experience.

I have played in rock, ska, funk, jazz, reggae and pop bands around Australia and the United States.

My mission is to teach my students everything they need to know to become amazing drummers.

Remember: This journey is about you. Everyone has different goals and likes different kinds of music. I am here to help you develop your own musical identity, to play like the drummers that you love and to play the music that you want to play!

I’ll teach you the foundational technique that you need, useful drum grooves that you can use when you jam with friends, and you’ll learn things which will make you stand out above other drummers, (rarely explained by other teachers) such as dynamics, timing, improvisation skills and valuable tips on jamming with other musicians.

What will our lessons look like?

  • What should I be practicing?
  • What are the most useful drum beats?
  • How can I play more exciting drum fills and drum solos?
  • How do I play with correct drum technique?
  • What are the most common mistakes made by beginners?
  • How do I get better rhythm and timing?
  • What is the easiest way to learn this song?
  • How can I get better at playing drums in a band?

If you’re interested to have a drum lesson, I’d love to hear from you!

P.S.  There are powerful benefits of being a drummer:
Drumming improves the connection between your mind and body, meaning that it massively improves your coordination, it improves your ability to focus (in a world where the ability focus is becoming increasingly difficult), it strengthens your creative muscle (and your arm muscles),  and it is heaps of fun!

P.P.S. Only a small percentage of the population has ever thought: “Maybe… it would be fun to play the drums”

An even smaller percentage of people ever take action. The best time to act is now!
