Although I’m calling it a beginner drum beat, it is also THE most important drum beat you have to learn if you are going to play Rock, Pop, Country, Funk, Blues or really any musical style other than jazz. This beat is the foundation of all of those styles and it is the beat that first gets your limbs going and sets you on your way.
From there we learn variations of this beat, we embellish, we complicate it and we open many doors with vast musical vaults to explore. But no matter how many crazy beats we learn to pay, this beginner drum beat is still the one that we need for most gigs. And that’s why I say it’s the most important because although it is your first drum beat, it is also the one that you hear every day on mainstream radio and TV.
