Learn how to play drum grooves in the five four time signature
Welcome to the five four drum beats lesson. In this drum lesson we break down the five four time signature and learn a selection of drum beats.
Five four can often seem mysterious and scary at first but it simply means that there are five quarter notes in a bar. That’s just one more beat than our common four four time signature.
Once we’ve established how to count this effectively we start to build it up into simple grooves. You can do this even if you’ve never stepped outside of four four before.
Next we add a little more complexity to the grooves but always in a progressive manner that makes it easy to understand and play. By the end of the drum lesson you will have a good vocabulary of five four drum beats and even understand a deeper concept used in a very famous song!
