Welcome to the Steve Gadd drum lesson. Here we will learn how to play the 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover drum beat.
This has become one of Steve Gadd’s iconic drum beats and is instantly recognisable.
It features in the verses of the Paul Simon song ’50 Ways To Leave Your Lover Drum Beat’ which was a hit song on his 1975 ‘Still Crazy After All These Years’ album.
The groove is so loved because it is incredibly inventive using a largely linear drumming approach. Gadd also deploys an interesting use of hi-hat foot pedals as well as hi-hats played by the hands. It creates a unique sound that works perfectly in the song.
In this drum lesson we break the drum groove down bit by bit so that even beginner drummers can understand how to play it.
