Learn how to play syncopated bass drums anywhere in the bar
This Is The Syncopated Bass Drum Workout Drum Lesson
In this syncopated bass drum workout we will learn how to play syncopated bass drums in the bar.
Syncopation simply means that we are playing on the weaker, or less regular, beats of the bar. So if the main quarter note pulse is considered the strongest beats in the bar, playing on the offbeats (the ‘and’) of each beat will give it a syncopated feel.
Playing regular, straight notes feels very natural and is much easier to play. As soon as we try syncopated rhythms it becomes more difficult.
In this drum lesson we will play the standard straight hi-hat and snare parts that are found in simple rock beats. But we will develop syncopated bass drum patterns that weave around the hand parts. This will help you develop much better control of your bass drum so that you can play bass drum notes anywhere in the bar.
