This drum lesson breaks down funky 16 beats with left hand open hi-hats. When opening a hi-hat with the left hand it creates a very syncopated funky effect because the left hands fall on the ‘E’s and ‘A’s of each beat.
It is more difficult to execute than playing them with the right hand but the effect is very cool. You can hear such an example in the chorus of Chaka Khan’s ‘Ain’t Nobody’. You can watch a break down of that beat here.
